An Open Letter to "The View"
urbanpeephole:
Yesterday on The View, they continued their daily discussion of Proposition 8. At one point, Elizabeth Hasselbeck stated: ” EVERY American has the RIGHT to marry in the United States. You just have to marry someone of the opposite sex”. This inspired my girlfriend Jen and I to write the following letter:

i have a huge, huge, HUGE crush on a new man. it’s my first crush since separating from my husband a year ago. my separation has been a dark, grim time in life.
there is guilt, because the husband and i are in couples therapy. there is glee, because the butterflies in my belly are alive and well. there is fear, because what if…gulp…mr. new isn’t crushing on me.

today's insight
i have plenty of realists in my life. it’s the dreamers i am in need of. i don’t need solutions. i need help hoping, hopeful helping, and a gajillion, “you know what? it’s all gonna be okay”s.

my place in watertown, ma includes a fenced yard. a rarity in a town of double and triple decker houses packed onto small lots in tight city blocks. my yard is a little piece privacy from my many neighbors— which i sometimes forget include birds, squirrels, opossum, raccoons, and skunks. skunks. smart, sort of adorable, and bold in surprising ways.

my dad was a quotable fellow. i sometimes have these overwhelming urges to revisit his more quotable moments, and dash off to closets and boxes for old journals where i jotted them down.
as i slowly pack up my beloved bungalow and all the journals it holds, i am reminded of some of dad’s favorite quotables. specifically, i can think of a dozen pivotal, challenging moments in my life that...
